DD Audio Issue with PS3 AC3, WMA...PLease help

Ok, here is my issue. Any help would be GREAT.

I cannot get my mkv/WMV files to play in DD 5.1.

I’m using Tversity setup with my PS3 following these instructions:

http://forums.tversity.com/viewtopic.php?t=11288

I have an mkv file with the audio originally encoded in DTS. After researching why i couldnt get the audio to play in DTS, I realized that it can not be supported when it is in an mpeg file format. I used

http://www.3r1c.eu/mkv2vob/mkv2vob.exe

to encode the mkv to a m2ts. I deleted the “s” to end up with .m2t. This also encoded the audio from DTS to AC3. But when I stream it to the ps3, I get nothing but stereo.

Even when I stream WMV files coded with audio coded in WMA, I still only get stereo, not DD 5.1

Do I need to mess with the codecs?

Help would be so much appreciated.

Anyone?

Yes, just tried it. Basically you convert the video using the mkv2vob utility first and then it plays via Tversity without transcoding to the PS3. So that is a way around the problem, but it would be great if we could figure out a way for Tversity to transcode to a format that the PS3 can play in 5.1 sound.
I’ve used Tversity for the past 3 months and have been able to get pretty much all of my files to play: avi, mkv, subtitles, etc. I’ve tried routing AC3 through ffdshow (yes, that can work) and through AC3 Filter; however, in both cases, I’ve only been able to get 16-bit stereo settings to work. Changing to other values results in “Data Corrupted” errors on the PS3.

I saw a post that said that the PS3 Media Center Connection only supports stereo and my testing seems to agree :( .

Has anyone else been able to get 5.1 sound out of the PS3 using TVersity? How :?: ??
I know you can. i have seen screen shots of movie play back in 5.1 where the information was on the screen showing 5.1 or 2 -stereo audio. Unfortunately I don’t have the links of where I saw them :(

Hi.

I have been playing movies in surround for a long time. I have upgraded to the latest version of TVersity today, so I can’t vouch for this working for the 1.0 RC1. (I see no reason why it should not work though.)

Do not install the TVersity codec pack. Use Combined Community Codec Pack (CCCP). Then use settings in mkv2vob as shown in the picture to get 5.1 sound.
Whenever I want to see a movie in matroska format (.mkv) I run it through mkv2vob to make sure it works on the PS3. It has worked in all cases except one.

You may need to force no transcoding in TVersity too. (You can set it on a per folder basis.)

Yes, I would really like that too. There must be some way to make ffdshow or some other filter transcode it on the fly. My computer seems more than fast enough to do it (Core 2 Duo 3.0 GHz, 2 GB RAM). Transcoding the sound part in an mkv from DTS to AC3 takes about 20 minutes I guess. Never timed it though. The video part usually does not need transcoding.

I’ve got 5.1 sound transcoding, works flawlessly, not sure why it isn’t working for some people.
I have no codec packages except for the TVersity one, because on the computer I use VLC which doesn’t rely on installed codecs, and I haven’t changed any codec settings since I installed.
I’ve checked and the PS3 reports 5.1 audio, the audio receiver says Dolby Digital 5.1, and the sound is definitely audibly surround sound, I have tested with several videos and the sound is definitely separated properly into each speaker.
I used to use MKV2VOB to get 5.1 surround but now there is no need to.
Not sure when this was fixed, because it didn’t used to work for anyone, but it does now and there’s no trick to doing it.

still haven’t figured out how to transcode 5.1 sound ?
