Hey, I just purchased the LN52A850 .... love the picture but would love to be able to have a decent video server... from what I've seen theis is the Server Software to use.... Please add the Samsung support!! I would like to start saving my DVDs to a video server. Anyone recommend the best format (quality-wise)... I do also have the SAMSUNG BD-2550 w/netflix blue ray option. But I do see any open DLNA client talks to connect to anything other than Pandora or Netflix. Note: The netflix streaming has a much smaller subset of movies compared to the delivery library..but the price is still right. I hope they add more movies to there selection. But I would to add my existing DVDs to a Media Server PC and from what I've read this is the software to use.

I'm a newbie at this some recommendations would be appreciated.

Also, I really not a gamer so I do not want to purchase a PS3 just to get better network connectivity. (kids are grown, and can't justify :) )

Thanks... I'll keep monitoring this forum in hope... if there are other recommendations I my ear is open. But is sounds like this is so close to opening up to popular model of television that is growing in market. I know several others myself reading to buy .

I've been watching this thread, too, since buying the family a LN46850 for Christmas. I played around with several media server packages for the PC and have had little luck getting them to work with the Samsung. TVersity seems to be very feature-rich, and it intrigued me more when I found that it worked right out of the box with my iPhone.

I've added the xml code mentioned earlier to the profiles.xml file and see that TVersity uses that to identify the television now. I've spent a lot of time looking over various threads, but haven't gone through the process of uninstalling/reinstalling codecs. I still can't stream anything from TVersity to the Samsung. Is anyone successfully streaming video from TVersity to a Samsung DLNA enabled TV?

I, too, would be willing to help with testing any developments. That is when I can get everyone away from the TV. Someone seems to be glued to it most of the time. The picture is awesome.

We recently purchased the LN55A950, and would love to be able to use TVersity to stream directly to the TV. It works great streaming through the 360, but I'd love not to have to buy another gaming console (I don't game..) or media center extender if the TV itself is capable. I'd be happy (and grateful) to test any updated code as well!

Hi,

at first line Tversity is great software for playing movies on samsung TV. In this thread and other, people solved problems with playing video files to samsung dlna tv. And it perfect works on my Samsung 40A750.

But why is not implemented support for correct displaying jpeg files and playing mp3 files. For long time half a year was put hrere why samsung can not take jpeg stream from tversity. 3 or 4 subversions from this time was created and nothing to solve this problem.

can you put there link to user guide to writing profiles.xml? can you sketch profiles parameters?

Where can we find some help about it?

The developers want a free TV from Samsung before they will add support for Samsung DLNA to their software. And sure, why not? I might think the same way if I was in their position.

Bottom line, look elsewhere for a media server to work with your TV.

I have an LN46A750 and have been disappointed with the DLNA support. I have a similar problem that I just resolved yesterday. I have a Phillips Streamium MCi250, which supports wireless media streaming, but is an older device that is not entirely compliant with the UPnP standard. I found a Perl script that somebody wrote (http://www.streamiumcafe.com/vBulletin/showthread.php?t=19428&highlight=streamyUPnP) to act as a UPnP proxy between TVersity and the Streamium. Running the Perl script on the same PC as my TVersity server (using the MP3 device profile) I am not able to connect to it with my Streamium.

I am wondering if it would be possible to rewrite or configure a similar script to do the same thing for the Samsung, ie a DLNA proxy? It's definitely not the most elegant solution, but it is probably more likely to happen than a) Samsung updating the firmware or b) TVersity including the correct profile in an upcoming build.

I don't know how to write perl but would be happy to help test, if someone with the required knowledge wanted to get involved with the project.

don't use any middleware/proxy - that will not helps in most cases ... better explore your system on codecs conflicts and it's merits (order) ...
and choose transcode or not for each media ...

Of course, but as one user wrote "no pay for software, no support !" solution was there posted the bug is in header of reply packet. Do you mean that developer need hardware at all to test software?

Potencional beta testers are all in this forum, why developer not co-operate with us a bit?
All small changes, can be testing right away. It looks like to developers want get the samsung tv free of charge :lol: .

I believe thats not true. And I say Tversity is realy great software, but can be perfect for samsung tv, just a few steps to be. In this time resolution is "FOR MP3(audio) and JPEG with Samsung DLNA is not compatible".

Count me in as yet another Samsung LN52A750 owner that eagerly awaits TVersity transcoding compatibility for Samsung DLNA, & will assist in testing.

I was able to coax mediatomb into being compatible with my samsung tv by adding the following custom http headers to it's dlna server via it's config.xml:

<custom-http-headers>
<add header="transferMode.dlna.org: Streaming"/>
<add header="contentFeatures.dlna.org: DLNA.ORG_OP=01;DLNA.ORG_CI=0;DLNA.ORG_FLAGS=01700000000000000000000000000000"/>
</custom-http-headers>

Also it seems like the samsung tv wants all videos to be advertised as type video/mpeg even though their real type could be divx avi etc.

Hope this helps samsung tv owners until Tversity can do the same.

TVersity,

I am currently running a LN46A850 - and like the other Samsung purchasers love the product.

To me, the the concept of expecting payment for software that doesn't work is, to be blunt, silly.

In software, the game is marketshare. Marketshare is created by you investing in the necessary time, materials and equipment to create a product that people want. Sometimes that means you plunking down your own money to buy what you need. Where does that money come from? They are called investors.

In short, Samsung doesn't care if their product works with TVersity. They have their own that ships with the product and works as advertised. Now, if you brokered a deal with Samsung to ship your product instead of theirs with new TVs and the like, Samsung has a vested interest in making sure TVersity works properly with their equipment.

So, here's the deal - If you get it fully functioning - no tweaking, tuning, config file modification, etc. with Samsung. A full first-class participant - I will gladly pay the $30 licensing fee. I am sure there will be many here that would do the same. I would imagine enough to pay back the investment you need to make in order for your product to function properly.

I will periodically monitor your website for announcement of full Samsung support. Shortly thereafter, you can expect my $30 paypal 'donation'. Until then, keep up the good work.

Thanks.

Hi,

I've just bought a Samsung UE40B7020 and it appears to have the same problem. I can connect and navigate through the folders but when I attempt to load any content I get the message "Not supported file format".

If it worked it would be really useful and In would pay. However, I have no other use for Tversity (originally tried it to connect to an MCI250 from Vista).

Lots of new Samsungs are coming out with DLNA and Tversity could create a real opportunity here.

Hi There,

I have the same issue.
Just bought the new Samsung UE46B7020.
Tversity installed.
I CAN browse through all the content but when I want to play a file it says : 'Not Supported File Format'
When this can be fixed I will pay for this software. Without any doubt.

This new TV model is rolled out accros Europe at this moment and can deliver a nice potential market share for Tversity!
So invest a litlle bit and earn your money back.
If I can help with testing just let me know!

With Samsung's software I'm able to play some video and other files.
But I would like to use the full benefits of Tversity.
Thanks!
Keep up the good work!

Re: Samsung LN52A750 52" TV DLNA support?

Postby tolecnal on Sat Jun 20, 2009 5:51 pm

Hello everyone.

I also encountered problems playing my content, both files locally on my computer and from my 2TB FreeNAS NAS server. Got the error message "File format not supported". This of course frustrated me, as the DLNA support meant that in theory I could ditch my future HTPC project and save some money, and also saved me from yet another box in the living room.

The supplied software from Samsung was a utterly useless and was ditched in a flash. The media sharing in Windows Media Player 11 wasn't quite right, so I tried around a few other alternatives, one of them being TVersity. I liked it straight away, but was of course sad when I saw I couldn't play my files.

Being a one that never likes to give up without a fight, I did some testing and found that by setting the default profile (read: Media Playback Device) to "Playstation 3" under the general settings page, I was able to playback all my content without a glitch!

So I suggest you all to try the same and report back your findings. Worked fine for me, and I can't see a reason why it won't for you guys!

Good luck! :))

Postby DOM on Sun Jun 21, 2009 12:45 pm

I can't use TVERSITY with my new tv a samsung UE55B7020 LED with the dlna support. I have always the same error that "content not supported" show up on the tv device. all other function are right. I try to look at a photo, listen to a song, or watch a video always the same message. I thing that the protocol is not good and it is not present in the profile.xml
it seem to be the same matter for all tv lcd/led samsung and i hope a solution soon.... :D
