Logitech Revue won't play transcoded files.

Postby sanovak » Sat Oct 08, 2011 8:25 am

The Logitech revue won't play anything from Tversity that needs transcoded? I've got this running on 3-4 other devices just fine. Running Win7x64 with Tversity Pro, and this seems to be the only device I'm having issues with. Any ideas?

(It will play mp4 files but I don't want to convert everything in my library to be able to play.)

What is TVersity making for the Revue to play? Use Mediainfo to examine the file built in TVersity's data directory, which lately has been under C:\ProgramData...

It has the profile for the revue I'm just wondering why I guess the revue isn't working with the trans-coded files? (That website looks sketchy I appreciate the link but I'd rather not install that)

Well, you need to determine what codec is being made by TVersity, versus what the Revue is capable of playing. Every once in a while a profile is not set to use a codec that works well.

If you don't like Mediainfo you can Google for another tool...

Thanks for the idea how do I change the profile though to use a different codec?

There's a transcodeTarget in each section of profiles.xml, that determines the output codecs for the different categories listed. WMV and MPEG seem to be the best ones to try for video since they actually play while being created. Others like MP4 need all the timestamps to be installed before they play, which only happens once the file is completely built.

I just looked, and the Revue is using MPEG16 for video which has a poor track record of success. Try plain MPEG, which is in another entry. I Googled for WMV support and see that the Revue didn't handle it as of recently, so you may have no alternatives...

Thanks for all the help - I might have to wait until the honeycomb update comes out - hopefully they will have a better selection of playable file types....
