SL300i and Media Player 11

Hi there,

I have had my Sl300i for quite a while now and everything works ok. In the past, I have always used the Philips media manager software to stream videos, pics and music to my SL300.

I have since upgraded my PC to Vista and wmp11 and I am having a few problems.

I set up wmp11 to share my music (to start with) and that all seemed to go ok, I was able to add my SL300 and it connected ok (easy I thought). So then I went to browse through the music on the SL300. All the folders were ther (my folders) and playlists were there as well. However, the SL300 reported that they were all empty.

Even if I went to the "My Folders" on the SL300, it had all the dir's listed, but all said they were empty.

Can anyone help with this problem?

If I cannot get a fix for this, I am trying to move away from the Philips software to something that I can run as a service, allowing anyone to turn the PC on and use the SL300 - or even after the PC reboots after an upgrade, nothing needs done. Also, the Philips software does seem a little heavy on memory usage.

Are you using TVersity as your main Media Server on your PC? It should be simply a matter of sharing your media locations in the TVersity GUI then select TVersity as your Media Server on the SL300i and your good to go. (Once TVersity has catalogued references to your media in it's DB)

Add a folder (your drive location etc) and give it a title

For example

Folder (Title)

C:\My Music (My Music)
C:\My Pictures (My Pictures)
C:\My Videos (My Video)

WMP11, TVersity and PMM can co-exist on the same PC, but it's better to only have one underlying media server service running at a time.

With WMP11 are you talking about the underlying Windows Media Connect? Can you just switch it and PMM off?

I have not used TVersity yet.

I have wmp installed with part of Vista and I have the PMM loaded as well. I seems that I can run both of these at the same time and my SL300 will see them both. But, only the PMM server will allow my to play music.

If I turn off the PMM I get the same effect. I don't know what media center connect is. I just set up the wmp11 sharing in Vista.

Can TVersity run as a service. I only have one PC and there are a few user accounts on it. I don't want to have to log in to start that application to be able to use m streamium.

TVersities normal operation is to run as a windows service. It has been proven to work on Vista etc.

ok, so I have installed the software and configured my library. I also stopped the media sharing from within wmp11.

Now, my Sl300 can't see any upnp servers... *confused*

Did you make sure that TVersity is an exception in the firewall so that it can be seen on the network? On the SL300i, press the PC button a number of times to force it to keep looking on your network for media servers?

Did you install TVersity using the admin account of your Vista install?

ok, so I got the server working now (I had to add UDP to the firewall as well as TCP).

Now, when I reboot the pc I can't connect is this correct? I want to be able to get my media without anyone having to log onto the pc?

Any thoughts?

I am aware that sometimes the TVersity MediaServer.exe will not start up correctly as a service during initial boot-up, is this your current problem.
(i.e. You look at services and it's not running, even though it’s set to automatic etc.)

So how are you starting media server.exe after boot-up at the moment?

I remember reading recent threads about issues with TVersity running as a service i.e. http://forums.tversity.com/viewtopic.ph ... server+exe But of course this may not be related to your particular problem at all. I am not sure on next steps to ensure that TVersity starts cleanly as a service under Vista if this is indeed your problem, hopefully someone else can chip in with some up to date thoughts.

I am pretty sure the service is running. I will need to have a look at the services with another pc to fully confirm this.

So, I reboot my pc and the SL300 will not connect. If I log in and start the tversity gui, everything is fine. I guess I need to log in without starting the gui and see what happens

update.

Ok, it seems that my sl300 will only see the media server if the GUI is running. Even though the service has started, it doesn't work.

Any more thoughts?

Hmmm, that seems strange as I thought the GUI only effectively enquired on the underlying and normally running MediaServer.exe service. I hope Ronen maybe able to provide some further guidance?

Unfortunately I am returning back in UK with my work next week, throwing my personal PC/Internet access time into complete confusion, otherwise I would have reviewed situation further with my own vista build in Madrid.

I wonder if your problem on Vista relates to your multiple user accounts, I have only created one account and believe I installed TVersity whilst logged into that account but running the install under admin rights?

I guess it could be the multiple user issue.

As you say, I don't understand why starting teh GUI makes a difference as all I expect that to do is talk to the service..

Don't forget Vista Security Encryption does not work on the Sl300i.

You will have to disable it on your router which then opens it up to all.

Unless Phillips support Vista I have found nothing works. Just wish I could get a refund.

On a seperate note I visited PCWorld and they are trying to sell this as compatible with Vista, just goes to show what they know.

But I can use my SL300i with Vista as long as I restart the service after logging on.
