WMV coming to 360, can TVersity support it and transcode?

Right here's my official guide to getting this working.

First of all, go and download WMP 11 here:

http://download.microsoft.com/download/0/9/5/0953E553-3BB6-44B1-8973-106F1B7E5049/wmp11-windowsxp-x86-enu.exe

After that, you want to go over here and get Tversity:

http://s3.amazonaws.com/www.tversity.com/download.html

Get the very latest build, and install it. If your 360 is having trouble seeing it, try and open the 41952 port in your firewall, as well as the Tversity exe's, which is quite easy in the windows firewall, and I recommend exploring them. If you have any issues with this, go to the following:

http://s3.amazonaws.com/www.tversity.com/faq.html#troubleshooting-faq

Now, you need the patch for 360 transcoding, which is available here:

http://s3.amazonaws.com/download.tversity.com/Xbox360Patch_0_9_8_4.zip

Installing the Patch:
- Stop Tversity
- Extract the content of the patch zip file into the installation folder of TVersity (by default it is \Program Files\TVersity\Media Server)
- Start TVersity, go to the 360 and browse your computer for videos. You should now see all the videos shared via TVersity plus all the online video URLs and assuming your directshow has the filters needed to decode these videos they should all play on the 360.

Nearly there now squires, get the FFDShow codec you want here:

http://www.free-codecs.com/download_soft.php?d=2631&s=50

To install this, stop Tversity and just run the exe inside the zip file, and go through it, and don't untick anything you shouldn't.

Finally, start Tversity, and add DivX files or folders containing them, and feel the full force of the transcode on your PC (it likes CPU's and it cannot lie), and on your eyes and ears as this is absolutely awesome on your 360.

NOTICE

If you want your 360 to display your DivX in 720p (or higher) you must:

a) Be insane as you need at least a dual core CPU

and

b) Be ready for some experiments.

Go to \Program Files\TVersity\Media Server, and right click on the profile xml file, and find the Xbox 360 profile. Here, change the minvideoinfo bit to the res you want. 720p is believed to be 1280 x 720, but I have no idea about bitrate.

There you have it, this is HOW IT IS DONE.

(I know as it has worked on a few machines, my friends, my own, and a few people I don't even like!)

Thanks, I'll give that a shot. Is there any way to have it transcode ahead of time so I don't have to start it from the 360? I know this kinda defeats the purpose of on-the-fly transcoding, but I've had limited success with other transcoders, including VLC, and the video quality I'm getting from TVersity is great. Will this be a feature in future versions given the current timeshifting limitations?
Yes it will.

Very nice to see such a solution - awsome work!

However, i am having some troubles getting it to transcode and actually stream my .AVI's to the xbox 360. Having tried almost everything suggested on this and other threads i am slowly running out of ideas.

Whenever i try to stream an avi file - it doesnt really matter what type of avi - i get the following log output:

Code: Select all
2006-11-26 23:34:05,390 DEBUG [1644] (MSDSDecode@..\dshow\MSDSDecode.cpp:2059) - Could not find audio pin on the source filter or on a splitter filter
2006-11-26 23:34:05,390  WARN [1644] (MSDSDecode@..\dshow\MSDSDecode.cpp:2148) - Graph building process is left with some unconnected pins
2006-11-26 23:34:05,390 ERROR [1644] (MSDSDecode@..\dshow\MSDSDecode.cpp:2738) - Could not run the graph
2006-11-26 23:34:05,390  WARN [1644] (MSDSDecode@..\dshow\MSDSDecode.cpp:2739) - Direct show error code is -2147467259, error message is Unbekannter Fehler
2006-11-26 23:34:05,390 DEBUG [1644] (MSMediaManager@.\MSMediaManager.c:2002) - For URL file://d:/hazle.avi and Player ID 10.1.0.52, returning file size 261013125
2006-11-26 23:34:05,390 DEBUG [1644] (MSWebServerCB@.\MSWebServerCB.c:795) - Exit INFO

Shortly after that my XBox tells me that it has lost connection to my computer.

What i tried so far:

- Reinstall tversity
- Reinstall windows media player 11
- Reinstall flvsplitter
- Reinstall FFDshow
- Reinstall DirectX
- Changed various XVid and DivX decoder settings
- Installed / Reinstalled Matroska Splitter

I always do get the "error" message above, theres no way to stream any kind of video to the xbox 360.

I'd appreciate suggestions/hints! :)

Thanks!

Seems like an audio issue. What audio codec does the file use? Do any other files work of the same audio codec or different audio codec? Have you had audio issues with your hardware in the past?

Do you have any other PC's you can try it out with?

Antarion, does your computer have a sound card? If so, what filters are used when rendering the AVI in graphedt.exe?

Question with Video Guide?

Postby upa on Sun Nov 26, 2006 7:03 pm

Hi, there,

Thanks for all the wonderful instruction here, I was able to get my Xbox 360 set up and had it up and running with TVersity. Awesome combo!

One question I had is how do I add the video feed from the TVersity Video Guide category so it shows up in 360 as well? It seems like for the files under "My Video" & " Internet Video", they are being picked up automatically, but nothing from "TVersity Video Guide". What do I need to do to add/share those? I am specifically interested in the TV from around the world.

Any suggestion is appreciated!

Everything is working great on mine now, except ... xvid files with AC3 5.1 audio play with no sound. I can hear the sound when I use WMP -- and, I have it set for 2.0 stereo.

Any suggestions?

Seems that I didn't have time to check that a brand new Tversity release hit home while the last guide was doing the rounds, so here is the revised edition:

First of all, go and download WMP 11 here:

http://download.microsoft.com/download/0/9/5/0953E553-3BB6-44B1-8973-106F1B7E5049/wmp11-windowsxp-x86-enu.exe

After that, you want to go over here and get Tversity:

http://s3.amazonaws.com/www.tversity.com/download.html

Get the very latest build, and install it. If your 360 is having trouble seeing it, try and open the 41952 port in your firewall, as well as the Tversity exe's, which is quite easy in the windows firewall, and I recommend exploring them. If you have any issues with this, go to the following:

http://s3.amazonaws.com/www.tversity.com/faq.html#troubleshooting-faq

The very latest build (0.9.9.1) already has the 360 enhancing patches needed for the transcoding, so no need to go and get them again. In fact, if you do, it might get really messed up. Repeat: YOU DONT NEED ANY PATCHES FOR THE VERY LATEST BUILD. (Released on the 26/11/06 By the way)

Nearly there now squires, get the FFDShow codec you want here (Preferably the top one in the download list, as that works for everyone):

http://www.free-codecs.com/download_soft.php?d=2631&s=50

There you have it, slightly revised to fit the brand new Tversity release. (Which is awesome by the way.)

Sorry about My NewB question but in the guide i got im having problem to delete the internet streams.
It says : You may also wish to delete the internet streams under "Library" by pressing the delete button. This adds too much to the 360 (about 1500 items! making it hard to find your files).

Where ? :( i did not smoke 2 day :)
All the rest works fine ! the only problem is those 1500 items that i dont need :D lol
Anyway Thanks in advance !

You can try and help me  I've got everything working fine except video with AC3 5.1 sound ... either I get no sound from the file or it's too quiet. It plays find on WMP. Any suggestions?

Since the 360 has just one flat list of videos we had to compromise something and we decided to avoid displaying this stuff on the 360. However if there is a particular channel you like (you can go through them on the PC) then add it as a video URL and then it will show on the 360.

Try installing a different AC3 directshow filter or even just configure the ffdshow audio decoder to handle AC3. You should be able to get stereo sound for AC3 so do not give up on this. Future versions will let you keep the surround sound.
